LED screens for the Sanlúcar horse races
Over 170 m² of outdoor LED spread across 14 screens on the beach at Sanlúcar de Barrameda, IP65 against the salt air and run from Novastar Cloud.
The horse races on the beach at Sanlúcar de Barrameda are a fixture of international tourist interest, and we have been their technical partner since 2014. The screens go up on sand, a few metres from the sea, and have to keep working every afternoon of the meeting under direct sun.
The installation
- More than 170 m² of LED distributed across the whole enclosure, as screens and as perimeter banner formats
- Two pixel pitches: 2.9 mm on the modules people stand close to, 3.9 mm on the ones read from a distance
- IP65 outdoor modules, with anti-corrosion treatment on the structures — salt, damp and blown sand are the real enemy here, not the rain
- High-brightness panels, because the races run in the afternoon with the sun low over the water
All fourteen points are driven from Novastar Cloud. One operator changes what every screen is showing at the same time, from the booth or from anywhere else, which is what makes it possible to sell sponsor slots that actually rotate on schedule.
Live pictures
The race feed goes onto the screens in real time, with the photo-finish results, and out to digital platforms at the same time. From any point of the enclosure you can follow what is happening on the sand.
An outdoor installation of this size is not improvised on the day. If you are planning something similar, the timings for structures, power and cabling need settling weeks in advance.
